Original Historic Places Registration Form (13 May 1991)
The original 1991 registration of the Lolo Trail as a National Historic Place by Idaho State Historian Merle Wells. Signed by “the Keeper” 1 February 1993. This form primarily documents the Northern Nez Perce Trail of 1805 through Hungery Creek (Lewis and Clark) and the Northern Nez Perce Trail of 1831
(John Work) over Snowy Summit.
Registration Form with Steve Russell’s additions
This is the documentation for the Lolo Trail National Historic Landmark that Merle Wells mailed to Steve Russell on September 19, 1996 requesting his help. The additional continuation sheets and maps contained here were sent to Russell to mark up and return just before Wells became terminally ill.
The trail tread is not marked on all maps. Russell has added Idaho State HS Reference Series 941 to this document that shows their estimate of the tread diversion at Saddle Camp.
